» Pino's Cucina Italiana
Stepping into Pino's is like stepping into “Hollywood gone Italian”. Soft peach walls and tiny lights create a subtle, glittering backdrop to large black and white still shots of famous Italian and Italian-Americans actors. Italian movie buffs will be in heaven. Candles, fresh flowers and creamy white linens denote an establishment steeped in elegance. Bottalico's warm and courtly manners invite you in graciously in a style straight from the Old World. But don't let his good manners distract you: there is some serious cooking going on back in the kitchen.

» Rosanna's Trattoria
ENCINITAS -- For 15 years, locals and tourists alike have been flocking to Rosanna Martin's Italian Market and Deli on Highway 101.

» Roxy Restaurant & Ice Cream
As a local cultural icon, the Roxy ranks with the La Paloma Theater, the Daley Double bar and Swami's Point as a surviving symbol of Encinitas in the late '60s and early '70s, when people wearing peace symbols and blissful expressions roamed downtown streets. The citification of Encinitas has driven most of the original flowe-power centers into retreat, but the Roxy has endured. And although remodeling has transformed what once was a funky hole-in-the-wall into a pleasant dining room, the emphasis on natural foods with a Middle Eastern flavor remains.

» Gaffney's Wine Bar
By the Glass - Wine Bar brings vineyard to unlikely place.
“Who would have thought? A little bit of wine country tucked away in a corner of Encinitas' Lumberyard. Yet there it is.
Gaffney's Wine Bar is one of North County's best bets for wine education these days. A list of about 25 wines is offered by the glass each evening, and the list changes weekly. Nightly specials and various flights are offered on a daily basis. (The night I visited, the evening flight consisted of three fetching southern Rhone blends: a Vacqueyras, a Gigondas and a Peuche-Haut.) Wines by the glass generally run from $5 to $9; premium wines by the half-glass are in the same price range."
